Tethered 4.3.4 JailBreak

You can use Redsn0w 9.8b3 for a tethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 until the iPhone Dev team releases a version to unteather it. 4.3.4 only patches the JailBreakMe 3.0 Exploit there for that method is now obsolete.

iOS 5 Features/Beta

Apple has released a beta of iOS5 for all of those signed up to the Apple developer program. You can download this for one easy payment of $99. OR you could download one of the many seeded IPSW files and install it manually. An exploit found by Mert Erdir allows you to upgrade to the beta without a Dev account.

iOS5 has a variety of new features added to it, like notification center, which takes all your notifications like text, missed calls, email, ect, and compiles them into one convenient drop-down menu. This menu can also be accessed from the lockscreen.

Another feature added to iOS5 is Newsstand, which is an app to hold all your subscriptions in one place and conveniently display them for browsing.

Apple has also directly integrated Twitter into iOS 5 allowing you to easily post to and manage your twitter account on the go. Any Twitter enabled app requires only one sign in and your ready to go. You can Tweet directly from Safari, Photos, YouTube, and Maps. A small button has also been added to add your location to the tweet.

The Safari and Photos app have also seen significant changes. As speed has been enhanced and tab browsing has been integrated. A new feature called reading list has also been added to allow you to save articles for later on. The camera app can now be accessed directly from the lockscreen. The Photos app now has pinch zoom and the volume button can be assigned to snap a pic upon being pressed. Photo editing has also been added, allowing users to crop pics on the go and remove red eye.

Mail has also seen some upgraded like a system wide split keyboard for the iPad to allow for easier typing, and a rich text editor.

Some other upgrades include the addition of pics to your Game Center profile, the ability to purchase games directly from Game Center, mirroring for easy streaming to  most modern TVs, and lest not forget about the addition of iCloud to backup all your songs and movies.

Forget that USB cable, with iOS5 you don't have to pug up to sync or backup your data anymore. Just plug up to power in range of your Mac or PC, and your data is wirelessly Synced to iTunes.

Last but not least you can now purchase an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch without having to connect to a PC. The device can be wirelessly set up right out of the box.

MACDefender

*UPDATE*
10.6.8 Snow Leopard was released to patch this!!
However Your Mac is still vulnerable MACDefender was updated as well

It's about time! Mac's haven't had a good virus or piece of mail-ware designed for them since there creation. This has lulled many mac users into a false sense of security. Not to support viruses, but wake up and smell the coffee! No matter what operating system or computer you use, you are never %100 safe from a virus. MACDefender was disguised as an anti-virus software but really built to steal your personal information. A OS update will be coming soon which will help protect users from software such as this. Read more about MACDefender and how to remove it on the Best Tech info blog: http://www.besttechinfo.com/mac-defender-malware/

Cydia's Competition

For years Cydia dominated the jailbreak package instillation world with an unquestioned monopoly.  Sure the app store is more stable, but obviously Apple doesn't offer jailbroken packages, and with the demise of installer, the discontinuation of Icy, and Cydia's recent purchase of Rock installer, Cydia had no real competition. However, that is all about to change as Icy is being redeveloped by the infinidev team and a new mobile safari based App store named Lima is also in development by the infinidev team. Lima will probably be incorporated into Icy for easy package installation, but can also be accessed though Safari. Lima will include both paid and free apps, and will feature a backup and restore system that will save apps in case users change devices or upgrade. There is not an official ETA on a launch but it will be soon.
